The 2010 Elections: It’s the Economy…

Following the most expensive gubernatorial primary in state history, Minnesotans enter the general election campaign with two very different views of how to create private-sector jobs and opportunity in Minnesota.

Mark Dayton, the DFL primary winner, ran as an unabashed advocate of tax increases and – in the face of an expected $6 billion state budget deficit – a champion of more government spending. That message and $3 million of his personal wealth, gave Dayton a narrow victory over Margaret Anderson Kelliher, who sharply criticized Dayton’s tax plan for its impact on middle-class families and job providers.

In the Republican primary, Tom Emmer won easily on a platform of lower taxes, job creation and responsible, limited government.

MN Forward believes that the number one issue in this election is getting our economy back on track following the global recession and putting Minnesotans back to work. That’s our focus. That’s what we’ll be talking about between now and November 2.
